An Amakusa Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-100, registration JA81AM performing flight AHX-108 from Fukuoka to Amakusa (Japan) with 38 people on board, was on approach to Amakusa when the crew received a fire indication for the right hand engine (PW121) and white smoke was observed trailing the engine. The crew shut the engine down, activated the fire suppression, continued for a safe landing and stopped the aircraft on the runway. As the fire indication had ceased by then, the crew did not initiate an evacuation, emergency services reported there was no evidence of an engine fire.

The airline reported the cause of the smoke is under investigation. All 4 flights between Fukuoka and Amakusa of Oct 14th have been cancelled.
