A passenger reported that there were two bumps, then sparks were visible from the left hand engine about an hour into the flight, the captain subsequently announced that the engine had been shut down with the engine's fire extinguisher having been activated.
The airline reported the crew shut one of the engines down due to mechanical issues.
The flight was cancelled, the passengers rebooked onto flights the following day.
