An Air France Airbus A318-100, registration F-GUGK performing flight AF-7736 from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Brest (France) with 85 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 55nm northeast of Rennes (France) when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and initiated a rapid descent towards Rennes, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 28 about 20 minutes later.

Passengers reported light white smoke appeared in the cabin, cabin crew recommended to use handkerchiefs or other cloths before the mouth to protect against the smoke. The aircraft diverted to Rennes.

The airline confirmed there was white smoke in the cabin prompting the crew to divert to Rennes as a precaution according to standard operating procedures. The source of the smoke is under investigation.
