A Hong Kong Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration B-LNC performing flight HX-337 from Beijing to Hong Kong (China), was climbing out of Beijing when the crew stopped the climb due to problems with the aircraft fuel system. After working the relevant checklists the crew decided to return to Beijing where the aircraft landed safely about 40 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the aircraft was climbing through about 10,000 feet when strange noises were heard from the engines and the thrust was reduced. The aircraft circled for about 10 minutes, then the captain announced they were returning to Beijing due to a technical problem. After landing passengers were told the fuel system had developed problems. Maintenance attempted to fix the fuel system but were unable, the passengers subsequently disembarked and were taken to hotels. Another aircraft reached Hong Kong with a delay of 21 hours.

The incident aircraft returned to Hong Kong as flight HX-313 about 12 hours after scheduled arrival of HX-337.
