An ATA Airlines Iran McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration UR-CIK performing flight I3-5215 from Tabriz to Mashad (Iran), was climbing out of Tabriz when the crew observed the right hand engine's (JT8D) oil temperature indications rising above limits and decided to shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Tabriz for a safe landing.

Ukraine's Ministry of Transport reported in their monthly bulletin that maintenance replaced the engine oil/fuel heat exchanger, engine oil differential pressure switch, the high temperature sensor and the fuel flow sensor. A following test still showed engine oil temperatures 21 degrees C above the values of the left hand engine, a system display panel was subsequently replaced after which indications were normal. The investigation commission determined the cause of the occurrence was the failure of the system display panel, the cause of the failure could not be determined.
