A TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A319-100, registration PR-MAO performing flight JJ-3793 from Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP to Joinville,SC (Brazil), was enroute at FL300 about 130nm southwest of Sao Paulo's Guarulhos Airport when the crew decided to return to Sao Paulo due to a hail strike causing the left hand wind shield to crack. The aircraft returned for a safe landing at Guarulhos Airport about one hour after departure, the aircraft sustained additional damage to the nose cone.

The airline reported the passengers were bussed to Sao Paulo's Congonhas Airport, where they boarded another flight to Joinville and reached their destination with a delay of 5.5 hours.
