An Air France Airbus A380-800, registration F-HPJD performing flight AF-990 (dep Nov 8th) from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Johannesburg (South Africa), was descending towards Johannesburg when the crew selected flaps position 1, a flaps actuator failed however causing the green hydraulic system to fail as well. The crew used the alternate landing gear extension, continued the approach and landed the aircraft safely on Johannesburg's runway 03L at what appears a rather normal speed. The aircraft was able to vacate the runway, then it was towed to the apron.

Maintenance determined a right hand inboard flaps actuator became defective leaking hydraulic fluid while on approach to Johannesburg with flaps being extended from 0 to 1 position, the crew needed to lower the gear manually as result of the associated green hydraulic failure.

A passenger reported the crew announced a hydraulics failure while on approach to Johannesburg. After landing hydraulic fluid was seen dripping down along the right hand main gear, all landing gear doors were open.

The return flight AF-995 was cancelled.
