An Emirates Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EEG performing flight EK-202 (dep Oct 25th) from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), was enroute at FL350 over the Atlantic Ocean about 250nm eastsoutheast of St. John's,NL (Canada) when the crew needed to shut engine #4 (GP7270, outboard right hand engine) down. The aircraft descended to FL310 and continued in the general direction towards destination but diverted to Kuwait (Kuwait) where the aircraft landed safely on runway 15L about 8:20 hours later.

A replacement Airbus A380-800 registration A6-EDR, that had already been dispatched to Kuwait and arrived at about the same time as A6-EEG, continued the flight 2.5 hours after the landing in Kuwait and reached Dubai with a delay of 5 hours.

A passenger reported the crew announced the #2 right hand engine had developed some technical problem and had been shut down. With just 3 engines running the farthest they could go was Kuwait, where a replacement A380 would pick them up.

On Nov 7th 2013 the Canadian TSB reported the aircraft was enroute about 200nm eastsoutheast of St. John's when the outboard right hand engine (#4) flamed out. The crew declared PAN to carry out the oceanic contingency procedures to descend on an offset track. After reaching the lower altitude the crew cancelled PAN, negotiated a new oceanic clearance and continued to Kuwait City on the remaining 3 engines for a safe landing. Maintenance determined that two fuel pumps supplying engine #4 had failed.
