A Transavia Boeing 737-700, registration PH-XRC performing flight HV-738 from Kalamata (Greece) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) with 120 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing through FL120 when the crew descended the aircraft to FL100 due to problems with the air conditioning and cabin pressure. The aircraft diverted to Athens, entered a hold to burn off fuel and landed safely on Athens' runway 03R about 2 hours after departure. Two cabin crew members were checked by medical staff at the airport but did not need to be taken to hospital.

A repacement Boeing 737-800 registration PH-GGX reached Amsterdam with a delay of 10 hours.

The incident aircraft positioned to Amsterdam as flight HV-62 departing Athens about 10 hours after landing and reaching a maximum cruise level of 240.
