An Icelandair Boeing 757-200, registration TF-FIV performing flight FI-680 from Seattle,WA (USA) to Keflavik (Iceland) with 156 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL350 about 110 nm east of Edmonton,AB (Canada) when the right hand engine (RB211) failed and was shut down. The aircraft turned around and diverted to Edmonton for a safe landing on runway 30 about 40 minutes later.

The airline confirmed an engine failure prompted the diversion to Edmonton. The passengers were taken to hotels. Another aircraft is being dispatched to Edmonton to resume the flight.

The Canadian TSB reported on Feb 11th that maintenance determined a strut valve had failed causing the right hand engine to fail.
