A Qatar Airways Airbus A320-200, registration A7-AHP performing flight QR-670 from Doha (Qatar) to Male (Maldives), was enroute at FL350 about 180nm southsoutheast of Muscat (Oman) in Omani Airspace and was cleared to descend to FL330.

An Etihad Boeing 777-300, registration A6-ETP performing flight EY-455 from Sydney,NS (Australia) to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), was enroute at FL340 about 180nm southsoutheast of Muscat in Omani Airspace in opposite direction.

The A320 descended through the level of the B773 with a horizontal separation of about 10nm remaining, a TCAS resolution advisory instructed the B773 crew to climb the aircraft, which the crew complied with and climbed the aircraft to about FL343 until the conflict was resolved. The A320 accelerated their descent to FL330.

Both aircraft continued to their destinations without further incidents.

Oman's AIB rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation.
