The aircraft is still on the ground in Chicago about 8:15 hours after the rejected takeoff.
The airline reported there were no injuries. The crew decided to reject takeoff when the aircraft went through a flock of birds. The brakes overheated, there was no fire, and needed to be cooled.
The airport fire department reported the brakes were on fire but had extinguished before the services arrived at the aircraft.
The FAA ordered a ground stop of about 30 minutes following the occurrence causing a number of aircraft needing to go around.
