An Air Canada Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration C-GEKZ performing flight AC-584 from Calgary,AB (Canada) to Newark,NJ (USA) with 91 people on board, was enroute at FL370 about 180nm west of Winnipeg,MB (Canada) when the crew received an airspeed disagree indication, which extinguished and returned three times, then stayed on. The crew worked the related checklists, determined the captain's airspeed was unreliable with standby and first officer's instruments being reliable. The crew declared first PAN PAN subsequently Mayday and decided to divert to Winnipeg, where the aircraft landed safely about 45 minutes later.

The Canadian TSB reported: "The TSB downloaded and analyzed the FDR and CVR. A review of the FDR indicated there was no degradation of airspeed and no aircraft control issues were recorded. The operator's maintenance investigated the aircraft's pitot systems and replaced the left Air Data Module (ADM) and the left Air Data Inertial Reference Unit (LADIRU). A functional test/ferry flight to Vancouver Intl. (CYVR), BC. was conducted and there were no faults reported. The operator's maintenance then replaced the left-hand pitot probe due to a suspected failure of the pitot heating element. A left pitot system leak test was carried out and the aircraft was returned to service."
