A Vueling Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration EC-KLT performing flight VY-8307 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Barcelona,SP (Spain), was on final approach to Barcelona's runway 02.

A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-EPA performing flight FR-7808 from Barcelona,SP (Spain) to London Luton,EN (UK), was cleared for takeoff from Barcelona's runway 06R, crossing the extended centerline of runway 02 just before the runway 02 threshold, and commenced takeoff.

At that point the controller instructed the approaching Vueling to go around, the crew initiated the go around from very low height (below 250 feet AGL), the aircraft's transponder indicated 0 feet MSL for 12 seconds (QNH 1022 hPa, transponder operating with standard pressure 1013hPa indicating 260 feet less than actual altitude) before the aircraft settled in a climb again just as the B738 accelerated through the extended runway center line at about 100 knots over ground. The A320 climbed back to 4000 feet, positioned for another approach to runway 02 and landed safely 18 minutes later. The Ryanair continued takeoff and landed safely at Luton Airport about 2 hours later.

On Jun 17th 2022 Spain's CIAIAC reported the airport was in a cross runway configuration with takeoffs from runway 06R and landings on runway 02. There were no injuries and no damage. The occurrence is being investigated.
