An Air Canada Embraer ERJ-175, registration C-FEKJ performing flight AC-730 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to New York La Guardia,NY (USA) with 72 people on board, was on approach to La Guardia's runway 04 with the autopilot engaged in LNAV and VNAV. Prior to reaching NORAY (final approach fix) the aircraft was observed descending below the minimum altitude of 1400 feet on radar, the air traffic controller issued an altitude alert and the aircraft climbed back to 1500 feet before continuing the approach. The aircraft landed safely.

The Canadian TSB said the crew had LNAV and VNAV engaged on the autoflight systems, the approach and vertical glide path appeared normal. The operator suspects a data problem in the navigation database for the non-precision approaches to La Guardia's runway 04. The event, as well as an earlier event, see Incident: Air Canada E170 at New York on Nov 27th 2012, descended below minimum height, is being investigated by the airline's fleet management and safety department in coordination with Embraer and Honeywell.
