An Avianca Airbus A330-300, registration N804AV performing flight AV-20 from Bogota (Colombia) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was climbing out of Bogota's runway 13R when the crew stopped the climb at 13,000 feet due to being unable to retract the landing gear. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel and returned to Bogota for a safe landing on runway 13L about 100 minutes after departure.

A replacement A330-300 registration N803AV departed Bogota with a delay of 19 hours.

A passenger reported after departure there were heavy airframe vibrations and the aircraft remained at low altitude. The crew subsequently announced, the landing gear was stuck in the down position, they were unable to retract it even after working the checklists and consulting with maintenance. The aircraft burned off fuel and returned to Bogota, the aircraft used the full runway length for roll out.

The airline responded to another passengers tweet stating (translated): "We want to make it clear that the landing gear failed but didn't break, so your AV20 flight returned to the platform due to an unscheduled technical inspection, which led to a change of aircraft."
