A replacement A321-200 registration CC-BEB reached Balmaceda with a delay of about 8.5 hours.
The airline reported a maintenance issue prompted the crew to return to Puerto Montt.
According to AIP Chile Balmaceda is surrounded by mountains and features a VOR approach to runway 09, there is also indication of a possible RNP approach (however, no chart was found). MDA for the VOR approach is 2560 feet MSL (838 feet AGL).
In AIP Supplement S1/2018 released on Jan 4th 2018 the CAA Chile declared the parallel taxiway to become runway 09L/27R and the main runway 09/27 to be closed. On Mar 29th 2019 the RNAV approaches to runways 09L and 27R could be found on AIP Chile's website well buried as Instrument Approach Procedure 10 and Instrument Approach Procedure 11 (see below). The MDA for the RNAV approach to runway 27R is 454 feet AGL, for runway 09L 544 feet AGL, both approaches require 2400 meters of horizontal visibility for the A321 (Cat. C aircraft).
