An Azul Linhas Aereas Avion de Transport Regional ATR-72-600, registration PR-ATH performing flight AD-6902 from Sao Paulo Campinas,SP to Cascavel,PR (Brazil) with 49 passengers, had already gone around once due to winds, positioned for another approach and landed on Cascavel's runway 15. During the final stages of the roll out the aircraft briefly veered left off the runway with the left main gear rolling over soft ground whirling up a large cloud of red dust before the crew returned the aircraft onto the runway coming to a stop turned right almost perpendicular to the runway. The crew subsequently made a left 270 degrees on the runway to backtrack the runway and taxied to the apron, where the passengers disembarked normally.

The airline reported the aircraft landed in strong winds, a gust beyond maximum cross wind limit caught the aircraft during roll out causing a brief runway excursion. The aircraft was examined, the return flight AD-6903 therefore cancelled.

An observer on the ground reported the aircraft went around the first time after bouncing on touch down. During the second approach tower reported a steady 35 knots of cross wind component, the aircraft appeared stabilized on final approach, touched down normally but veered left off the runway, rolled over soft ground for about 200 meters before the aircraft returned onto the runway and came to a stop almost perpendicular to the runway. The observer reported the aircraft sustained damage to all main tyres and the belly of the fuselage, the left main gear appeared to be bent inward.

Cascavel offers a runway 15/33 of 1615 meters/5300 feet length and 30 meters/100 feet width, NDB approaches to both runways have been published.
