An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EBL performing flight EK-332 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Manila (Philippines), was enroute over the Gulf of Thailand when a woman pregnant in her 27th week went into labour. Two nurses aboard the aircraft assisted with the birth, while the flight crew diverted the aircraft to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). The boy was born while descending towards Vietnam and needed oxygen due to breathing difficulties. After safe landing mother and boy were taken to a local hospital, where the baby boy remains in intensive care, the mother was found in good condition.

The aircraft reached Manila with a delay of 2:45 hours.

The parents later announced they named the boy "Ek" after the airline's IATA Code.
