A TUI Airways Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration G-TUMH performing flight BY-800 from Newcastle,EN (UK) to Sal (Cape Verde), was climbing out of Newcastle's runway 07 when the crew stopped the climb at FL260 following a suspected bird strike and decided to divert to Manchester,EN (UK), where the aircraft landed safely on runway 05R about 55 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration G-FDZX is estiimated to reach Sal with a delay of about 5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Manchester about 8.5 hours after landing.

The airline confirmed a bird strike as cause of the diversion to Manchester.
