A Dana Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration 5N-SRI performing flight 9J-343 from Lagos to Port Harcourt (Nigeria), was in the initial climb out of Lagos when anengine (JT8D) ingested a bird prompting the crew to shut the engine down and return to Lagos for a safe landing.

The airline confirmed the aircraft performed an air return following a bird strike on departure from Lagos. Engineers are currently examining the affected engine.
