An Air Canada Airbus A330-300, registration C-GFUR performing flight AC-864 from Montreal,QC (Canada) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 256 passengers and 10 crew, departed Montreal's runway 06R and completed what appeared to be an uneventful flight with a safe landing on Heathrow's runway 27R about 5:45 hours after departure. Ground personnel discovered the right forward outboard main wheel was missing.

The return flight AC865 of Apr 17th was cancelled.

A search for the wheel recovered the wheel from the side of Montreal's runway 06R near the threshold.

The airline confirmed the wheel was lost during takeoff. Canada's TSB is assessing the information available to decide whether to open an investigation.

On Apr 21st 2017 the Canadian TSB reported that the aircraft was lining up for departure from runway 06R when the forward outboard right main wheel separated from the wheel bogie and rolled onto the grass at the side of the runway. The aircraft departed and flew to London, where ground staff advised the wheel was missing. There was no damage to the aircraft except for the axle and wheel bearing when the wheel detached from the axle.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 4 days and returned to service 98 hours after landing.
