A Southwest Boeing 737-800, registration N8314L performing flight WN-1658 from Baltimore,MD to Portland,ME (USA) with 180 people on board, was on approach to Portland's runway 29 when the crew went around from about 2000 feet MSL reporting a flaps problem. The crew requested to enter some hold to run the checklists. The crew subsequently reported they might need to divert and requested higher, 10,000 feet or so, and were cleared to 10,000 feet. The crew advised they were likely to divert to Manchester,NH (USA). After initiating the diversion the crew decided to return to Portland advising they had not fixed their problem and were going to land at a slightly higher than normal speed, emergency services were requested. The aircraft landed safely on runway 29 at a higher speed than normal about 45 minutes after the go-around.
