A Southern Air Boeing 777-200 freighter, registration N777SA performing flight 9S-275 from Cincinnati,KY (USA) to Bahrain (Bahrain), was enroute at FL330 almost over London's Heathrow Airport,EN (UK) when the crew initiated a descent to FL230 and a diversion to Leipzig (Germany) due to the Captain feeling increasingly unwell and in severe pain. The aircraft landed safely in Leipzig about 80 minutes later. The captain was taken to a hospital.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Leipzig for 17 hours, then continued the journey to Bahrain as flight 9S-275D.

On Jan 4th 2017 The Aviation Herald received information that the captain was relieved from a kidney stone in Leipzig. The crew including the captain had decided to divert to Leipzig, which is a Hub for Southern Air. Urgent freight on the flight could thus be distributed onto other flights.
