An Emirates Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EUD performing flight EK-97 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was enroute at FL400 about 190nm southwest of Tehran (Iran) when the crew reported problems with the #3 engine (GP7270, inboard right hand), descended the aircraft to FL350, turned around and returned to Dubai for a safe landing about 4 hours after departure.

A replacement A380-800 registration A6-EDX reached Rome with a delay of 6:20 hours.
