A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKE performing flight LH-495 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Munich (Germany), was on final approach to Munich's runway 26L when the crew received a "windshear ahead" warning and called out "Go Around". The aircraft went around, at that point there were about 5.5 tons of fuel remaining with the diversion fuel computed at 4.4 tons, the captain decided to divert to their alternate aerodrome Nuremberg and the activated the flight plan to Nuremberg in the FMS. The FMS computed that the aircraft would arrive in Nuremberg below required minimum fuel reserve prompting the captain to declared Mayday. The aircraft received vectors direct to the approach fix to Nuremberg. After the crew reordered the FMS flightplan into the correct sequence, the FMS now computed there was sufficient fuel on board. The aircraft landed safely in Nuremberg with 3.1 tons of fuel remaining (minimum fuel reserve at 2.3 tons).

Germany's BFU stated in their July Bulletin released on Nov 23rd 2016, that the occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by the BFU.

The occurrence aircraft refueled in Nuremberg, continued to Munich about 90 minutes after landing in Nuremberg and reached Munich with a total delay of 2 hours.
