A Volaris Airbus A320-200, registration XA-VLX performing delivery flight Y4-9023 from Toulouse (France) to Keflavik (Iceland), was enroute at FL380 about 150nm northwest of Glasgow's Prestwick Airport,SC (UK) at 15:10L (14:10Z) when fighter aircraft, having accelerated to supersonic speeds, reached and intercepted the A320 due to the loss of communication about 30 minutes earlier, when the A320 was over the Irish Sea about 15nm southwest of Holyhead,WL (UK). The aircraft turned around and escorted by the fighter aircraft diverted to Glasgow's Prestwick Airport for a safe landing about 45 minutes after the intercept.

Residents on the ground were concerned about hearing the sonic booms produced by the fighter aircraft.

Scottish Police reported the aircraft lost contact at about 14:40L (13:40Z), the aircraft landed at Prestwick at 15:57L (14:57Z).
