A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, registration D-AIRS performing ferry flight LH-9923 from Dubrovnik (Croatia) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was descending towards Frankfurt when oil fumes were detected on board. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Frankfurt's runway 25R.

The aircraft remained on the ground for 15 hours, then resumed service.

The aircraft had encountered oil fumes the day before while descending towards Dubrovnik, see Incident: Lufthansa A321 at Dubrovnik on Sep 24th 2016, fumes on board.

Germany's BFU reported that following extensive review of the information available the occurrence was rated an incident and is not being investigated.

Following the release of the initial coverage The Aviation Herald received information that the flight departed with engine #1 and APU bleed air systems disabled due to oil contamination found in Dubrovnik. Both captain and first officer, who conducted the flight to Dubrovnik, were flying the aircraft when during descent towards Frankfurt the already well known odour occurred again. The crew immediately shut down the #2 engine bleed air system and activated RAM air, which caused a sudden change of cabin pressure but stopped the odour.

The source told The Aviation Herald, that after landing in Frankfurt the tech log entry made in Dubrovnik showed that traces of oil were found in ENG#1, ENG #2 and APU bleed air systems.
