An Etihad Airbus A330-300, registration A6-AFE performing flight EY-51 from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Geneva (Switzerland), was on approach to Geneva when the crew entered a hold at FL190 reporting a hydraulic failure. The crew performed an alternate gear extension and continued for a safe landing on Geneva's runway 05 about 45 minutes after entering the hold at FL190. The aircraft stopped on the runway, shut the engines down and was towed to the apron.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 56 hours, then departed for the return flight EY-52.

On Oct 19th 2016 Switzerland's SUST reported that the green hydraulic system suffered a large leak in the pressure lines of the right hand engine (Trent 772). The occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by the SUST.
