An Omni Air International Boeing 767-200 on behalf of Aer Lingus, registration N234AX performing flight EI-135 from Shannon (Ireland) to Boston,MA (USA), was climbing out of Shannon's runway 24 when the crew requested to level off at FL100, stopped the climb at about FL107 and descended the aircraft back to FL100. Air Traffic Control queried whether operations were normal and whether they were on Mode-C only, the crew affirmed and advised they were just working that checklist and troubleshooting , ATC explained he had seen the aircraft briefly on FL107, then FL104 and descending to FL100, the crew advised they had just gone to Mode-C while troubleshooting an issue with the altimeter. While holding at FL100 the crew advised they needed to return to Shannon, they had also detected an air speed indication issue that they needed to return for. The aircraft landed safely back on Shannon's runway 24 about 35 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft was able to depart about 2.5 hours later following maintenance and reached Boston with a delay of 3 hours.
