A Blue Air Boeing 737-400, registration YR-BAU performing flight 0B-140 (dep Jun 17th) from Hamburg (Germany) to Bucharest Otopeni (Romania), was on final approach to Otopeni's runway 08R when the crew went around. The aircraft joined a downwind, the crew subsequently advised they needed some more minutes to work something in the cockpit. The crew subsequently advised they were now ready for another approach, joined the localizer runway 08R again but upon contacting tower requested to perform a low approach advising, they had an unsafe main gear indication. The aircraft overflew the runway at low height and went around, tower reported that both main gear struts appeared to be in their down and locked positions. The aircraft positioned for another approach to runway 08R and landed safely.

A passenger reported that during departure from Hamburg there was an odour of old socks throughout the cabin for about 10-20 minutes, then dissipated. After the first go around the passenger noticed that the flaps were retracted but the gear remained extended, there was no information provided by the flight deck or cabin crew. While on a long downwind the passengers heard that the gear was retracted and extended a number of times. The aircraft went around a second time, positioned for another approach, commencing the approach much more quickly than after the first approach, and landed safely. The aircraft taxied to the apron, passengers disembarked, the cockpit door remained closed all time, there was no announcement.
