A KLM Airbus A330-300, registration PH-AKB performing flight KL-723 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Havana (Cuba), was enroute at FL320 about 800nm west of Ireland when the crew decided to abort the Atlantic crossing and return to Amsterdam, with the option to divert to Shannon (Ireland), due to oil quantity at the right hand engine (CF6) decreasing faster than normal, the aircraft descended to FL300 for the return. About 2 hours later, just when the aircraft reached Ireland, the aircraft drifted down to FL230 and continued to Amsterdam for a safe landing about another 2 hours after leaving FL300.

A replacement Airbus A330-300 registration PH-AKF departed the following day and reached Havana with a delay of 24 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 27 hours, then resumed service.
