A PIA Pakistan Internation Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration AP-BGY performing flight PK-711 from Manchester,EN (UK) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 205 people on board, was enroute at FL370 over Northern Ireland (UK) about 130nm northeast of Shannon (Ireland) when the crew declared PAN due to a lavatory smoke indicatin and decided to divert to Shannon. Shannon Approach advised runway 06 was active, winds from 300 degrees at 12 knots, runway 24 was available however. The crew opted for runway 24. A British Airways A320 on training doing touch and gos on Shannon's runway 06 was instructed to perform a full stop landing instead of the option in response to the incoming emergency. The PIA aircraft landed safely on runway 24 about 32 minutes after leaving FL370. The aircraft taxied to the end of the runway to turn around and backtrack to vacate the runway via taxiway A to the apron and was instructed to hold at the end as the emergency vehicles were already on the runway. The crew advised it had been an indication only, there was no confirmation of actual smoke. After the "traffic jam" on the runway was resolved the aircraft did the 180, backtracked the runway to taxiway A and taxied to the apron.

The occurrence aircraft departed Shannon after about 6 hours on the ground and is now estimated to reach New York with a delay of 7 hours.
