A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration JA8987 performing flight JL-651 from Tokyo Haneda to Kagoshima (Japan), was climbing out of Haneda's runway 34R when the right hand engine (CF6) ingested a bird prompting the crew to stop the climb at 4000 feet and return to Haneda for a safe landing on runway 34R about 20 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration JA658J reached Kagoshima with a delay of 2.5 hours.
