An Air Canada Airbus A321-200, registration C-GJVX performing flight AC-1233 from Fort Myers,FL (USA) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 181 people on board, was climbing through FL310 about 330nm south of Charlotte,NC (USA), almost over Jacksonville,FL, when the crew noticed both Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS) directors had failed. The failure was accompanied by an acrid odour in the cabin. The crew decided to divert to Charlotte where the aircraft landed safely about one hour later.

The Canadian TSB reported the crew initiated the diversion without declaring emergency with the intention to facilitate a maintenance investigation.

The occurrence aircraft was able to position from Charlotte to Toronto on Feb 17th after about 48 hours on the ground and resumed service after landing in Toronto.
