A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration TC-JJJ performing flight TK-15 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil) with 294 people on board, was climbing out of Ataturk Airport's runway 35R when a bird impacted the nose of the aircraft. In the absence of abnormal indications the crew decided to continue the flight. Enroute at FL300 about 300nm westsouthwest of Istanbul about 45 minutes into the flight the crew decided however to return to Istanbul due to aircraft performance and fuel consumption. The aircraft descended to FL250 for the return, entered a hold at FL170 to dump fuel and landed safely back on Ataturk's runway 35L about 2:20 hours after departure. The radome had received a large dent.

A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration TC-JJF departed Istanbul about 3.5 hours after landing and is estimated to reach Sao Paulo with a delay of about 7.5 hours.
