A TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200, registration PR-MAA performing flight JJ-3538 from Brasilia,DF to Aracaju,SE (Brazil), was climbing through FL250 when the crew stopped the climb and decided to return to Brasilia for a safe landing about 50 minutes after departure.

On Feb 5th 2016 the French BEA reported based on notice by Brazil's CENIPA, that the aircraft was still climbing when cabin crew informed the flight deck that a number of passengers and cabin crew were suffering from significant lack of oxygen (in other words: hypoxia). The flight crew manually released the passenger oxygen masks, a number of passengers and cabin crew donned those masks. The crew subsequently returned to Brasilia. The occurrence has been rated a serious incident and is being investigated by CENIPA.
