An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EBZ performing flight EK-35 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Newcastle,EN (UK), was enroute at FL340 about 60nm southwest of Trabzon (Turkey) when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and diverted to Trabzon for a safe landing on runway 11 about 17 minutes later. The passengers disembarked normally.

The airline reported the aircraft diverted to Trabzon due to a technical fault. The passengers safely disembarked, a replacement aircraft has been dispatched.

A passenger reported there was smoke and burning smell from the lavatories.

A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration A6-EGS was dispatched to Trabzon and is currently on the ground in Trabzon preparing to take the passengers to Newcastle.
