A Germanwings Airbus A319-100, registration D-AKNF performing flight 4U-2034 from Stuttgart to Bremen (Germany), was enroute at FL320 about 140nm north of Stuttgart, about to reach the top of descent towards Bremen 125nm further north, when the crew decided to return to Stuttgart due to problems with the aircraft's anti-ice systems. The aircraft landed safely back in Stuttgart about 50 minutes later.

A replacement A319-100 registration D-AKNT reached Bremen with a delay of 2:45 hours.

A passenger reported the captain announced they had technical problems with an anti-ice system, the system was still operating but needed maintenance. The decision to return to Stuttgart was made due to lack of maintenance facilities in Bremen.
