United B738 at Denver on Dec 31st 2015, funny smell in flight, cargo smoke indication on landing

A United Boeing 737-800, registration N27205 performing flight UA-1278 from Miami,FL to Denver,CO (USA), landed on Denver's runway 17L and was about turning off the runway when the crew received a forward cargo smoke indication. The crew discharged one bottle of fire agent, the smoke indication ceased, nonetheless requested emergency services to attend at the gate reporting they had a "funny smell" on board departing Miami, too. The crew continued taxi to the gate B23 while emergency services responded. Emergency services wile approaching the aircraft near the gate reported seeing no smoke outside of the aircraft. The aircraft pushed into the gate, the passengers disembarked normally via the jetway. Emergency services were briefed there was one dog and one possibly electrical wheelchair on board, unknown whether the dog was in the forward or aft cargo hold. After all passengers had disembarked emergency services opened the forward cargo compartment and reported light smoke, but no fire. The dog was recovered from the aft cargo hold. The smoke in the meantime completely dissipated, the bags in the forward cargo hold were checked, two of them were found hot when touched but did not show any soot/indication of fire. The two bags were put aside for further investigation and were opened, no problem was found inside the bags. No burn marks, soot or other evidence of heat/fire was found inside the cargo hold. After ensuring that the forward cargo was all secure emergency services turned the aircraft over to United Maintenance for further examinations.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 19 hours after landing.
