An Emirates Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EOH performing flight EK-216 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), was climbing out of Los Angeles' runway 25L cleared to climb to 13,000 feet when the crew requested to stop the climb at 10,000 feet and to enter a hold to work checklists. The aircraft entered a hold at 10,000 feet, the crew subsequently advised, they were not able to retract their landing gear, and decided to return to Los Angeles. The aircraft dumped fuel and landed safely back on Los Angeles' runway 25L about 90 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Los Angeles about 41 hours after landing.

A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration A6-ECQ positioned from Seattle,WA to Los Angeles about 23 hours after landing and resumed the flight as EK-216D departing Los Angeles with a delay of 35 hours.
