A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, registration D-AIDI performing flight LH-34 from Frankfurt/Main to Hamburg (Germany), was in the climb out of Frankfurt's runway 07C when the crew stopped the climb at FL090 reporting they had "a little smell of smoke in the cockpit" and wanted to return to Frankfurt. The aircraft landed safely on runway 07C about 20 minutes after departure.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 20 hours before returning to service.
