A Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-90, registration N929DN performing flight DL-2042 from Atlanta,GA to Philadelphia,PA (USA), was in the initial climb out of Atlanta's runway 09L when the crew declard emergency reporting they were single engine, they had a bird strike on departure, the left hand engine (V2525) had failed. The crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet and returned the aircraft to Atlanta for a safe landing on runway 8L about 30 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported the aircraft sustained unknown damage.
