A Lufthansa Airbus A380-800, registration D-AIMF performing flight LH-440 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Houston,TX (USA), was enroute at FL360 about 550nm west of Shannon (Ireland) when the crew decided to reduce engine #2 (Trent 970, inboard left) to idle due to loss of engine oil and to return to Frankfurt. The aircraft maintained FL360 until out of Oceanic Airspace - one aircraft were held over Irish Airspace due to the emergency as their track was blocked by the returning Lufthansa - , descended the aircraft to FL330 once in contact with Shannon Center and commenced a fuel dump for about 15 minutes ending the fuel dump prior to reaching the Irish Coast. The aircraft descended further to FL230 for the return to Frankfurt and landed safely in Frankfurt about 3 hours after the decision to turn around.
