Hop! CRJ7 and Easyjet A319 at Lyon on Mar 17th 2017, ATC operational error, runway incursion prevented by CRJ crew

A Hop! Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of Air France, registration F-GRZL performing flight A5-4083 from Biarritz to Lyon (France), had landed on Lyon's runway 35R and was cleared to cross runway 35L at B4.

However, an Easyjet Airbus A319-100, registration G-EZAZ performing flight U2-4353 from Lyon to Nantes (France), had been cleared for takeoff from runway 35L and was accelerating for takeoff on runway 35L.

The CRJ-700 neared the hold short line of runway 35L they noticed the A319 on their departure roll and stopped short of the hold short line.

The French BEA reported at the moment the CRJ crew applied the brakes tower instructed them to hold position. The BEA confirmed the CRJ had been cleared to cross runway 35L at B4 but spotted the departing A319 and stopped just short of the hold short line.

THe BEA rated the occurrence an incident and opened an investigation.
