A Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N594HA performing flight HA-43 from San Jose,CA to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 241 passengers and 11 crew, departed San Jose with a delay of 130 minutes and was climbing through FL240 when the crew stopped the climb due to a generator failure and decided to return to San Jose. The aircraft entered a hold at 10,000 feet to burn off fuel and landed safely on San Jose's runway 30L about 3:20 hours after departure.

A passenger reported mechanics were repairing a generator prior to departure. The aircraft thus departed with a delay of 2 hours. About 30 minutes into the flight the captain announced that the generator problem had resurfaced and they were returning to San Jose.

The airline reported a the captain received indication of a mechanical issue and decided to return to San Jose.
