A United Boeing 767-300, registration N651UA performing flight UA-972 (dep Feb 11th) from Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) to Brussels (Belgium), was enroute at FL290 over the Atlantic Ocean when the crew decided to divert to Shannon (Ireland) reporting a problem with the left hand engine (PW4060). The aircraft drifted down to FL190. After exiting Oceanic Airspace the crew advised Shannon Center, that they had not yet shut down the left hand engine, but it was the left engine with problems. ATC advised they had deployed emergency services as precaution on their own. The aircraft landed safely on Shannon's runway 06 with emergency services in their stand by positions.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 10 hours after landing.
