A Westjet Boeing 767-300, registration C-FOGT performing flight WS-1860 from Calgary,AB (Canada) to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 247 people on board, departed Calgary's runway 35R when immediately after becoming airborne the crew received a BRAKE TEMP indication and tower advised the crew he saw a wheel rolling away from the aircraft. The crew decided to not select the gear up and leave the flaps at 5 degrees. The crew consulted with the operator's maintenance center and chief pilot while on radar vectors by ATC, then performed a low approach to Calgary to have the gear inspected from the ground. Ground observers reported the forward outboard left main gear wheel was missing. The aircraft entered a hold to burn off fuel, then landed on Calgary's runway 17L. Following an inspection by emergency services the aircraft taxied to the apron.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance replaced the axle, brake and the remaining three wheels. The TSB wrote: "The errant wheel had damaged a runway sign and was located in the grass, on the east side of the runway near the threshold of Runway 17L. The wheel bearing components have been obtained by the TSB for further examination."
