A Qantas Airbus A380-800, registration VH-OQB performing flight QF-10 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Melbourne,VI (Australia), was enroute at FL350 over the Indian Ocean about 1200nm southwest of Singapore (Singapore) when the #1 engine (Trent 972, outboard left hand) started to show vibrations on the low pressure spool (N1) prompting the crew to descend the aircraft to FL330 and divert to Singapore. Enroute towards Singapore the vibrations increased reaching 9 units prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft landed safely on Singapore's runway 02C about 3 hours later.

The airline confirmed a mechanical issue with one of the engines as reason for the diversion. The passengers are being rebooked onto other services or taken to hotels overnight.

The engine is being replaced.
