An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N396AN performing flight AA-64 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Zurich (Switzerland), was enroute at FL370 over the Atlantic Ocean about 130nm east of St. John's,NL (Canada) when the crew reported a "minor electrical problem" and decided to turn around and return to New York. The aircraft descended to FL340 initially for the return, later climbed to FL380, and landed safely on JFK's runway 04R about 4:15 hours later.

A passenger reported there was an electrical problem in nature, first the inflight entertainment system went out, then the power outlets, subsequently the passenger reading lights went on and off randomly.
